IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light and delivers a broad spectrum burst of light to the skin to heat up the bulb of the hair follicle with the intention of damaging it to prevent hair from growing. Laser deliver a single wavelength of light. So the big question is which is the best for you?
IPL are a very effective way of removing unwanted hair. They are good at thoroughly covering larger areas and are often selected over our clinics lasers where they are considered to be a better way of achieving the a great outcome. Laser like the ND Yag are much better at treating darker skin types and darker hairs.
Having the choice of machines at the clinic allow each of our medical practitioners to chose the machine that is right for you.
Once you’ve been succesfully treated with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) you should not need to wax, shave or use electrolysis. During the treatment at the clinic you’ll be asked to wear eye protection and a special cooling gel will be applied to your skin to prevent the high powered pulse of light from causing damage to the skin.
When it comes to the number of treatments required, IPL and Lasers require you to have the same number of treatments at the same 4 – 6 week intervals to get the result you’re after.
You’ll find costs for IPL treatments on our main laser hair removal information page. If you’d like a free consultation you can contact the clinic in London on 020 8653 5646.
